About government seals

A government seal identifies the office that issued a document: permits and licenses, certified extracts, official correspondence, municipal records and departmental approvals. The traditional construction is a circular seal with the authority's full name curved around the outer ring, a country, state or department line curving along the bottom, an emblem or ring of stars, and sometimes a division code, reference or date band. Our templates put each of those on an editable element.

The category offers a department star seal, a federal-style seal with an OFFICIAL DUTY band, a European-style round stamp with a department reference and tax identification line, and an oval municipal office stamp with an Office of the Mayor line and a date field. Oval and round are both conventional for civic use. You can rewrite the wording, swap the emblem, add or remove star rings and dotted borders, and set the ink color to the blue, black, red or purple your office uses.

Official seals are governed by law: many jurisdictions restrict who may use a government or municipal seal and what it must contain, and reproducing a real agency's seal without authority may be an offence. These templates are original designs meant as starting points for authorized use, mock-ups, education and fiction — always comply with your own jurisdiction's rules. Downloads include a transparent PNG, a white-background PNG, an SVG and a print-ready PDF.

Frequently asked questions

Can I make an official government seal here?

You can design the artwork, and if you are authorized to hold a seal for your office you can have it manufactured from the SVG. What an official seal must contain, and who may use one, is set by your jurisdiction.

Can I copy an existing agency's seal?

No. Reproducing a real government seal without authority is restricted or illegal in many countries. Our templates are original designs, not copies of any agency's emblem.

What file do I send to have the seal made?

The SVG. It is vector artwork, so a stamp or embosser manufacturer can produce it at any diameter without losing detail.
